‘Doc’ Savage And Shandy Folk
Shandy Folk Group was formed about 31 years ago and John Byrne and Donal Corkery are original members . Brendan Savage joined them about 12 years ago.
The group have mainly played in Dublin and in many of the towns within a forty mile radius of Dublin. Other venues played at include Irish Clubs in London, The Rosslare to Cherbourg ferry ship, The Sheraton Hotel in Kuwait and various venues in Wales.
Brendan ‘Doc’ Savage plays Mandolin and Guitar with Shandy Folk. He is also one of Ireland’s top comedians and presently features monthly on ‘Liveline’s Funny Friday’, a one and a quarter hr. live radio programme hosted by Joe Duffy . For ten years he toured with the World Famous ‘Jury’s Irish Cabaret’, where he played in the renowned Carnigie Hall and at venues in 49 US States. He has also performed with The Wolfe Tones, The Dubliners, The Fureys, The Chieftains, Joe Dolan, Red Hurley and with Rebecca Storm in The Hot Press H.Q. in Dublin
John Byrne plays Guitar with Shandy Folk. John began his musical career playing in Show Bands and pop groups but soon graduated to the ballad scene and joined a group called The Lowlanders who played at most of the major venues of the time – Liberty Hall, The Embankment, The Old Sheiling, Meaghers of Moore Street. Prior to joining Shandy Folk he embarked on a solo career and was support act for groups such as The Dublin City Ramblers and The Johnstons and artists such as Danny Doyle and Paddy Reilly.
